Mesa Lane Sunrise - Santa Barbara Daily Painting

"Mesa Lane Sunrise"
11 x 14 inches
oil on linen board

Capturing the sunrise takes some effort. First of all, you have to wake up early enough to be able to get ready, then get to the location, then chose a composition, and then finally set up your easel - all before the sun comes over the horizon. I was a little late getting to this spot and was told by a surfer that the tide was rising. I got down the steps at Mesa Lane to find only a few yards of sand left. I decided to risk it and try to paint anyway. Although I did stay close to the stairs in case the tide did keep rising. I had to lift my easel up a few times and jump on the rocks but I was able to catch this moment when the sun was just creeping around the cliff walls. I really like the reflection of the rocks in the surf. I hope to get back and do it again soon.
